The Two Appliances A Registered Dietitian Uses for Nutritious Homemade Meals

The appliances you use to cook your food are just as important as the food itself. A registered dietitian and recipe developer turns to these two versatile machines when whipping up homemade meals.

As someone who works in recipe development and is married to a professional chef, registered dietitian Leah Murnane spends a lot of time in the kitchen. That means any tool she uses, either for business or pleasure, needs to be functional, high-quality, and serve many purposes.

“When you're looking for kitchen products, you want something that's versatile and it's also going to last you,” Murnane says.

People may be tempted to go for a lower-price appliance when moving into their first place, or stocking their kitchen for the first time, and while that may be a short-term cost-saving decision, it could end up costing you more in the long run, both in price and food quality.

“If you're only spending a little bit on it and having to replace it, it's probably not getting you the quality that you need anyways,” Murnane says. “So you might as well just spend a little bit of extra [money] and get a nice quality investment product.”

Two of her favorite appliances that meet this criteria are the Blendtec Blender and her KitchenAid Stand Mixer.
