Dermatologist Carmen Castilla’s 2-step skincare routine is a lifesaver for sensitive skin

Dermatologist Dr. Carmen Castilla specializes in personalized skincare plans, so of course we asked her to spill her own skincare routine. Here’s her two-step approach for sensitive skin.

“It's a great time to be a dermatologist right now with how things are improving and advancing so rapidly,” says Dr. Carmen Castilla, a board-certified dermatologist at New York Dermatology Group who specializes in personalized, patient-centered treatment.

“I have a background in art. My undergrad major was studio art, mainly photography and sculpture — very visual, hands-on mediums,” she says. “Then, I went to medical school, and I considered a variety of different things. But the visual aspect, the procedural aspect, having the ability to use my hands and see actual skin, diseases on the skin, and whatnot — that’s what attracted me to dermatology initially.

“The more I can understand what matters to a patient and the more I can help them achieve their results in a way that's meaningful to them? Because that's different for everyone. At the end of the day, personalized medicine is about listening.”

With a decade of creating customized skincare for patients on her CV, we were curious about how she’d personalized her own skincare plan. Below, Castilla shares her two-step plan, and it’s great for anyone with sensitive skin.
