‘Forest-powered’ skincare brand Ursa Major’s co-founder on her go-to products for a summer outside

“I do not consider myself an outdoorsy person, but I’m outside all the time,” says Emily Doyle, co-founder of Ursa Major, a B Corp skincare brand she launched with her co-founder and life partner, Oliver, to fill the wellness gap they saw in the beauty industry. The very real benefits she gets from happily spending time outdoors in their home base of Vermont are part of what she channels into their “forest-powered” skincare.

“I want people to feel seen and joyful and like they’re doing something really healthy and good for themselves,” Doyel says. “It’s almost like nourishment. I think we just want people to feel really great and really proud and like they’re doing something good for themselves and for their skin.

“The connection with nature for our brand is super important, and that comes directly from [Oliver] and me knowing how important it is for your mental and physical health to take time to be outside in nature.”

A big part of a great day outdoors? Adequate protection against the sun. “One of the most important things you ever do if you go outside is wear a hat, wear sunglasses, wear an SPF,” Doyle says.

IN CONVERSATION WITH

Emily Doyle

co-founder, Ursa Major

After years of living in NYC and working in the beauty industry (before “clean beauty” was a household term), Emily Doyle and her life partner Oliver made the move to beautiful Vermont. It wasn’t long before they were inspired to take everything they knew about big beauty (toxic ingredients, fear-mongering, and more), and flip it all on its head. Their vision: delightfully effective skincare essentials made with forest-found ingredients, by a brand that genuinely wants your skin and your spirit to thrive.
