A pizza restaurant founder says this $18 OXO cutter is good enough to use on the line

Flimsy pizza cutters literally don’t cut it for restaurant co-founder Emily Hyland. After almost a decade in the pizza restaurant business, this $18 wide-wheel OXO pizza cutter is her go-to for cutting with confidence.

“If I had to hop on the expo line and cut a bunch of pizza at the restaurant tonight, I would use this happily,” says Emily Hyland, co-founder of Pizza Loves Emily and Emmy Squared, about her go-to pizza cutter.

“The mantra, when I’ve [taught] people, like when I was doing pizza classes online during [the] pandemic, it was ‘cut with confidence,’” Hyland says, and this OXO tool helps her do exactly that.

“I love a nice heavyweight, kind of wide-wheeled cutter, and it’s one of my favorite tools,” Hyland says of the OXO tool. “It also works great with focaccia.”

Part of the appeal for Hyland is the brand’s mix of durability and functionality at a price you can’t beat.

“I feel like OXO tools are generally really good, sturdy, functional kitchen tools that also aren’t bonkers expensive,” Hyland says. “This one has worked for me well at home over the years.”

A little heft goes a long way

Hyland says, “there’s a lot of really rinky-dink plastic handle [pizza cutters]” out there, and that’s what sets the OXO apart.

“It has a good rubber handle, and it’s a little bit bigger,” she says. “The heaviness really helps kind of get down and across that cutting board.”

The width also plays a role in how well it performs as Hyland says “rather than a smaller wheel, [having one] a little bit wider is helpful.”

One cutter, every pizza

“It just feels like a very useful, functional tool,” Hyland says.

From “a fancy outside wood burner” or just a “toaster oven,” she says this cutter “will work across the board.”

Another standout for Hyland? Cleaning up is as easy as slicing through the crust. “[It] goes in the dishwasher [and] nothing gets stuck in the little center part.”
