As co-owner of a furniture studio, this is the Stanley tape measure I never go without

Erika Hardman, co-owner of handcrafted furniture studio Hardman, knows having a trusty tape measure on hand is basically part of the job requirement. Here’s the Stanley version she’s never without — and why it comes in handy more times than you’d think.

As the co-owner and creative director at funiture studio Hardman, Erika Hardman has her hands full with responsibilities ranging from running sales and staying on top of designs to planning photoshoots and handling customer feedback.

Wherever her busy schedule and varied tasks take her, having a trusty tape measure is basically part of the brief. Hardman’s go-to for years now? Stanley’s sturdy PowerLock Compact Keychain tape measure — and it has a few tricks up its sleeve you might not expect.

Why Stanley’s keychain tape measure works so well

“It goes with my keys, so I always have it,” Hardman explains. “It's very compact, so it can go in any handbag, and I always love having it with me. I'm not someone who needs a fancy, expensive measuring tape. I like that it's so simple and works really well.”

Hardman’s husband, Liam, is the one who suggested she upgrade to a tape measure with a keychain, knowing how she tends to leave her things in various places.

“I would get annoyed carrying those big measuring tapes everywhere,” Hardman says. “My bag is already heavy. I'm carrying half of my life in my bag, and I felt like I couldn't carry any more. I was looking for something really compact and I found that one.”

An expert’s stamp of approval

With Hardman running a custom furniture business alongside her husband, who handmade every piece himself in the beginning, she’s no stranger to the Stanley line of tools and equipment. It just so happens that her search for the right compact tape measure led her to the brand, and she hasn’t felt the need to look any further. Hardman says, “I think as a pocket one, it works perfectly, and I don't have any issues.”
