Furniture startup Sabai’s sustainable-minded CEO on building a bedroom that feels like a retreat

There’s a lot that goes on in Phantila Phataraprasit’s daily schedule as the co-founder and CEO of Sabai Designs. By the time she gets home, it’s important that her surroundings, especially her sleep space, reflect the ethos of Sabai while feeling like “her.”

As the CEO and co-founder of rapidly growing sustainable furniture brand Sabai, it’s safe to say that Phantila Phataraprasit knows a thing or two about designing living spaces that truly feel like home. It’s not just about how pieces look, but how they look and feel, as well as what they’re made from. Natural materials in furniture are a sign of good quality and longevity: Investing in timeless pieces, as your budget allows, is a practical (and beautiful) way to reduce the strain of consumer consumption on the environment.

“What are you going to have for a while that withstands the test of time but then also withstands the test of trends, and isn't something that you'll want to replace in the next year or so?” Phataraprasit says. “Think about making sure that you're buying things that you actually really love and you'll want to have in your home for a while,”

Sabai’s use of naturally sourced materials is also an emphasis she brings into her own home, especially when it comes to her bedroom: a retreat where she can relax, rest, and recharge at the end of a long day. Phataraprasit shared four of her favorite bedroom furnishings that place the emphasis on organic, sustainable materials — and set you up for a great night’s sleep.

Phantila Phataraprasit’s top picks for natural bedroom furnishings:

Best duvet cover: Casa Parini Duvet Cover, $336 for queen size at Casa Parini

Best organic mattress topper: Earthfoam Organic Mattress Topper, $399 for queen size at Earthfoam
