Zum Frankincense and Myrrh Laundry Soap, $20 at Zum
“Everyone who knows us knows that our house has the scent. My kids, my husband, we all have this scent," says Palaez. “It has the most amazing smell — a really clean but herbal, natural fragrance.”
In Palaez’s household, “no one does laundry except for me,” Pelaez said, and she’s careful about the way she cleans their cltohing.
“I’m the strictest in our house. I get really upset when my husband does laundry the way that it's not supposed to be done,” she says. “And I hang dry the majority of everything.”
And hey, if you’re the one on laundry duty, having a scent that smells good is key.
“The scent is very calming; I love when my sheets are fresh with it. When I travel and I don't have it, I don't feel quite the same, like I don't smell the way I want to smell,” she says.
“I don't know if I've done myself a disservice because now I'm also very sensitive to the smell of other laundry detergents – way more than I ever was. I cannot stand the smell of certain ones now. They smell sour to me.”
For her, there’s just something about “whatever chemistry there is with the water” and the detergent that takes place during the wash cycle, resulting in the perfect laundry, home, and personal fragrance.
“I wish I had stock in the company, because I recommend it to so many people,” she says. “They ask me all the time if I'm wearing a fragrance and what it is, and I answer that it is literally our laundry detergent.”
